Silverman Law Sponsors Cycling Team to End Multiple Sclerosis
Odds are you know someone who has multiple sclerosis. It is a degenerative neurological disease that can affect anyone. The disease damages the nerve fibers that allows the brain to communicate with the rest of the body. Statistically women are more likely to be diagnosed than men. Symptoms can include numbess or weakness in the arms and legs, lack of coordination, inability or difficulty walking, impaired vision, dizziness, cognitive problems, fatigue and slurred speech. In other words it can very broadly impact one's life.
Not long ago there were no effective treatments for MS. However, in the last couple decades numerous effective treatments have been developed that can greatly improve the quality of life for those with MS. An end to MS is now a realistic goal.
About 6 years ago, I signed up for a two day bike ride to support the MS Society. The ride was 150-200 miles over two days. My longest ride to date was 58 miles. On that ride I was amazed to see people living with MS riding, volunteering, and cheering us on. Fast forward a couple years, I am a captain of Richmond Area Bicycling Association's (RABA), bike MS team. We have 74 members and we are targeting raising $100,000.
