Women are Disproportionately Harmed by Defective Medical Devices

One of the litigation publications that I read each month is the American Association for Justice's Trial Magazine. The November 2013 issue discusses how women are disproportionately affected by defective medical devices.  This is partly explained due to the fact that medical devices for women seem to fail at unacceptable rates.  Examples include transvaginal mesh for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and birth control devices and pills (Nuvaring, Yaz, Yasmine, etc.).  What surprised me though is that women have a worse outcome from hip replacements due to failure of metal on metal hips.
